E3 EXPER: EXPosure, Endocrino-metabolic disruption and Reproduction

Development of integrative approaches for the evaluation of endocrine disruptors and their mechanisms of action

The EXPER team includes two lecturers-researchers from the National Veterinary School of Toulouse, a researcher and an engineer from INRAE and, since January 2021, three physicians from the Reproductive Medicine Department of the University Hospital of Toulouse. Its expertise and skills come from its disciplinary specialties in physiology, endocrinology, metabolism and reproduction, which are complemented by skills in toxicokinetics.
The team's research theme is set in the context of human exposure to a mixture of food contaminants likely to alter endocrine, metabolic and reproductive functions. The issue of prenatal exposure to potential endocrine disruptors is central because of the vulnerability of the fetus and the long-term health consequences of a disruption in the hormonal balance of gestation.

In this context, the team uses toxicokinetic/toxicodynamic concepts to analyze the relationship between maternal exposure to food contaminants and early and predictive markers of a disruption of fetal thyroid, reproductive and metabolic functions.

Team members also have an important contribution to make to :

  •     The initial and continuing education of veterinarians, doctors and midwives
  •     University training through the responsibility of the M1 "Reproductive Medicine", participation in M2 modules and the co-direction of the SEVAB doctoral school.
  •     Clinical activity at the service of medically assisted procreation
  •     Support for public policies through the strong involvement of three of its members in working groups of ANSES and EFSA.
