Dr Susana Rivas, DR2 CNRS, group leader

Susana RIVAS

Susana did her PhD in the University of the Basque Country (Spain) working on bacterial conjugation. After her PhD, she moved to the Sainsbury Laboratory in Norwich (UK) where she spent six years as a postdoc in the group of Jonathan Jones. During her postdoc, Susana investigated the function of the tomato Cf-9 protein and its role in defence response activation and specific recognition of the Avr9 peptide from the fungal pathogen Cladosporium fulvum. In 2003, she was recruited as a CNRS researcher. Since then, Susana studies the transcriptional regulation of Arabidopsis defence and associated hypersensitive cell death responses to pathogen attack and, more recently, the interplay between plant immune and developmental signaling pathways.


Dr Corinne Audran, CR1 INRA

Corinne Audran

Corinne obtained her PhD at INRA Versailles, working in the group of Annie Marion-Poll on the regulation of abscisic acid biosynthesis during seed development and in response to drought stress. She gained further knowledge on seed development during a post-doctoral stay in the group of Loic Lepiniec. Corinne joined the GBF lab (Genomics and Fruit Biotechnology) in 2001 as an INRA researcher. She investigated the hormonal control of tomato fruit development focusing on repressors of the auxin signaling pathway (Aux/IAA gene family). In 2015, Corinne joined Susana Rivas at the LIPM to elucidate the protective roles of transcriptional regulators of plant defence expressed during early seed development in Arabidopsis thaliana.


Céline Vicedo, IE CNRS  

Céline Vicedo

Céline was recruited as IE2 CNRS in December 2001 at the « Evolution and Biological Diversity » in Toulouse. After two years spent as a secondary school teacher on Life Sciences, she joined our group in 2016. Céline contributes to different projects with her skills in molecular biology, sequencing, genotyping, transcriptomics and proteomics.


Dr Irene Serrano, Agreenskills postdoctoral fellow

During her PhD at the Estación Experimental del Zaidín in Granada (Spain) Irene’s work focused on the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) in programmed cell death (PCD) associated with pollen-pistil interactions and self-incompatibility in olive tree. During her postdoc at Indiana University (USA), she focused on the identification and characterization of substrates of the Arabidopsis EDR1 protein kinase, a highly conserved key regulator of PCD during plant-pathogen interactions. Funded by an Agreenskills Fellowship, Irene joined Susana Rivas to work on the transcriptional control of defence-associated cell death responses and to elucidate the protective roles of transcriptional regulators of innate immunity expressed during seed development in Arabidopsis thaliana.


Lucas Marmiesse, PhD student


Lucas obtained a Master’s degree in Biology and Health with a specialization in bioinformatics at the University of Bordeaux I in September 2013. For his Master's internship, he joined the Bioinformatics Facility at the LIPM to work on flux analysis of metabolic networks. In October 2013, Lucas started a PhD to initiate statistical and mathematical modelling of the transcriptional network controlled by MYB30, a transcription factor involved in the regulation of defence responses in Arabidopsis thaliana. This PhD project is carried out in collaboration with the Toulouse Mathematics Institute (IMT) and funded by the SPE INRA Division and the Midi-Pyrénées Region.



Vincent Duplan, PhD student


As part of his Master degree in Microbiology and Agricultural BioSsciences (specialty in Plant Biosciences), Vincent firstly performed an internship about the role of ubiquitination on Arabidopsis defence response. He next pursued this work for a one more year, before starting a PhD in October 2014, funded by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, to build on his previous activities and further investigate the regulation of MYB30, a transcriptional factor at a crossroads between defense and development in Arabidopsis thaliana.


Rémi de Marchi, PhD student

Rémi de Marchi

Having obtained a Master degree in Plant Biosciences at the Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, Rémi started a PhD at Maynooth University (Ireland) in 2014. His PhD project is co-supervised by Emmanuelle Graciet (Maynooth University, Ireland) and Susana Rivas. He investigates novel roles of the N-end rule pathway, a subset of the ubiquitin-proteasome system that relates the in vivo half-life of a protein to the identity of its N-terminal amino acid residue, on the control of the plant response to pathogen attack.


Nolwenn Guéguen, PhD student

Nolwenn Guéguen

With a degree from INSA (Toulouse) in Biochemical Engineering, Nolwenn carried out a Master II internship in our group. Following this training period, she initiated a PhD funded by the BAP INRA Division and the Occitanie Region and co-supervised by Corinne Audran and Susana Rivas. Nolwenn’s PhD project aims at better understanding the protective roles of certain plant defence regulators during seed development.


Hayley Travis, Erasmus student

Hayley Travis

A biochemistry student from Manchester University (United Kingdom), Hayley has a particular interest on plant –pathogen interactions. As part of her university training, she has chosen our group for a one-year ERASMUS placement.
